My Reader

“What’s the name of your blog again?” Rose asks, standing at the kitchen island with an iPad.

I tell her.

“Write the joy,” she says beginning to type.

I enunciate this time. “Where there is joy,” I repeat.

“So I type where there is joy and Jessica Carey?” she asks.

“Are you trying to read my blog again?”

I already see her screen full of orange slice of life images. She navigates the now familiar to her screen. She pulls up, Fashionista. A post all about her. Usually, it’s Chatterbox that she gravitates to first.

She begins to read aloud before I banish her to another room. Who wants to hear their writing read aloud on a Friday night after a long week? Not me. Not tonight.

A while later, I go to publish today’s slice of life. I click on the little bell, to see if I have any notifications. I do…

It takes me a moment to realize that my booming stats are coming from my living room and one of my most loyal readers. It’s Rose.

Look at that smile…reading this new post…starring her! ⭐️

  7. Jessica, the smile on her face is the icing on this wonderful post. Your words suggest her curiosity and then she disappears as you craft a slice about her interest and then she reappears as the conclusion. Great story telling
