In the fall, I gifted tulip bulbs for every birthday
and anniversary,
A gift that would keep on giving.
I gifted myself bulbs,
just because.
Summer was neverending, the Earth so thirsty
It was November before I attempted to plant
the bulbs in the dusty ground.
Covered, not planted, may be more accurate.
Occasionally, bulbs needed to be tucked in again,
the wind displacing the covers.
A cold and dark season ensued,
the bulbs forgotten, a distant memory.
Fast forward to Spring.
Despite a thick blanket of snow,
those bulbs were working hard,
waiting for their moment to remind us,
that every tough season will come to an end.

beautiful — those bulbs are hearty! sure they appreciated being tucked back in!

This slice is filled with hope and optimism. I love it!
I also really liked the brevity in your format. I might try that sometime!

I have a friend who lived in Amsterdam and gave tulip bulbs to all fer family members. It takes patience and a good care for them to thrive. I hope they come out beautifully.

That green pushing through the ground is one of the best sights. Great format to tell a small story.

We are certainly in a tough season. Let’s hope we can all be as strong and persistent as those bulbs. We’ll take our inspiration anywhere we can find it.

How cool, I love your poem and the photo, especially the last two lines and the idea that bulbs need to be ‘tucked in’!

Plants are so magical, aren’t they? I love that yours have started to make their presence known. Once the tulips form, you will be in for a real treat! 🙂
