Going Gray

Yesterday, I received this text from my husband.

Seeing Arnauld’s face with the words, “I think I finally have my first gray hair,” was a bit of a surprise. He doesn’t usually send selfies. Gary hair is an event Arnauld has been looking forward to for a while now. I know…really…LOOKING FORWARD TO! He says it he thinks gray hair will make him look more distinguished.

Meanwhile, as I picked my girls up from my mom’s house after school yesterday, I stood catching up with my mom. While I chatted away, I could feel Adi’s eyes on me. “You have a lot of gray hair.”

I did not celebrate the way Arnauld would have…and while I’ve noticed the increase of gray, as someone who has never colored my hair, I’m not eager to start that process. Maybe Arnauld and I will just go gray together.

  1. The perfect little slice showcasing the dual feelings of going gray. And of course, a child’s pointing out what we wish they didn’t! But your ending, going gray together, is a beautiful image.

  2. I’m with you, Jessica. I love the salt and pepper hair of my husband, but I’m not embracing the journey. If I thought I would not look like a mouse, I might try it – but I’m afraid my gray won’t be a pretty one.

  3. Every now and then I think about embracing gray, but then I’m like nah– keep coloring. I definitely wasn’t sending selfies advertising my changing colors! Funny he did and great slicing material! He knows it’s March right, and we’re all on the hunt for slice topics?

  4. Ha! I have had more and more gray creep into my beard over the last few years in particular. I look at photos from 2018 and am like ‘that guy looks young!’. Thanks for the share, and the photo is perfect! ;0

  5. I can totally relate to this! My husband has just a few like yours and thinks it will make him look wise. My 4 year old yesterday said “Mom your hair is turning white!” and it’s not- I have just a few gray hairs I’ve found that make the top sparkle a little. The photo is the best part of this 🙂
