Slicing Kindness Leads to Gold!

Earlier in the challenge, who knows what day it was now, Molly at Nix The Comfort Zone messaged me through my blog. She wanted to let me know that she had commented on my piece that day, but it did not appear. She had even gone back to previous posts she commented on and did not see her comments at all. She wondered if her comments had gone to spam?!?

This was news to me but I was determined to get to the bottom of these missing comments. If someone takes the time to give me feedback or write a comment, it deserves to be displayed! I poked around quickly in the Jetpack app, where I do most of my reading and commenting. I didn’t see any indication of spam. I’m kind of sentimental and even though I don’t use WordPress on my phone anymore, I haven’t deleted the app. So I went in there and did some more poking. I found a section called Comments (which I have since discovered also lives in Jetpack) and let me tell you, I hit gold! There were all sorts of comments in my pending and spam folders, some spanning back years! What a treat to discover all of these comments that I never knew existed.

At the time, I hadn’t thought to check these extra comment folders for our school blog, the one that hosts our community writers during the month of March. Today, I went in on a whim and I hit the jackpot again. It turns out more people have been commenting on posts than I imagined.

So, this post goes out to Molly and her small act of kindness. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me and helping me to discover treasure in the form of comments. Is there any greater kind?

  1. Such a positive post. I love that you hunted down Molly’s comment and were rewarded for your effort. I must say that since WordPress switched to Jet Pac, I’ve been terrified to change over. I actually stopped writing on my Nurturing Literacy blog. I’m so afraid I’ll lose all my work and although I’ve asked my adult kids and even the phone store guy, I’ve found no one to help me. Perhaps you could just tell me what to expect if I switch to Jet Pac. No pressure…just need a litte reassurance.

  2. I switched to Jet Pack and wondered if it was a mistake but this reassured me and I’m so happy that you had a flood of kindness all at once!

  3. Oh, I’m so glad you discovered all those comments. Gold, indeed! What a nice reward for taking the time to investigate. (On a side note, I’m now totally wondering what the heck Jetpack is and if I need to switch over from wordpress. Ack!)

  4. What a delight to discover all those pending and spam comments that weren’t spam at all! This year, I’m finding a lot of comments being sent to spam. In some cases, they are from people who have been commenting on my blog for years with no problem. I bet your slice will help others discover some missing comments too!
