Meet the teacher day. Check done. I spent most of the day battling the printers at school. The kids and I pulled into the driveway after their day at my parents’ house. They don’t start school until Thursday. My head is already in the kitchen, mentally preparing dinner. What kind of vegetable can I pull off quickly?
I lug my bags inside and my hand instinctively reaches for my necklace, feeling the three rose gold circles that hang from the chain. I drop my hand and brush the front of my dress. That’s weird. Is that a tag? I reach my hand back to the neckline of my dress, where I pull forward to reveal…a tag. I’ve had my dress on backwards all day.
When I get inside, vegetables forgotten, I text my team who I spent a lot of time with today:

Thanks for the laugh. I’m sure you looked great no matter what!

I love “my head was in the kitchen mentally preparing dinner”. Give an deeply honest take on how a mom’s brain works and then when you forget about dinner and hone in on the backwards nature of your day — perfection. Thanks for the laugh and for being you — you looked great — even backwards!

This is the perfect show, not tell of a dedicated, busy teacher! So glad you included the text images. Perfect emojis to go with your slice that gave me a much needed chunkle at this busy time of year. And yes, I just doubled check where my tags are on my clothes as I head out to day 2 with students of this school year!

I love that your colleagues knew it was a sliceworthy event- they know you well! No surprise that nobody noticed- kids likely would have- adults, we are too often in our own heads. Have a great start!

For sure. Slice worthy! I’ve known friends who’ve worn two similar shoes that were different, but this may be the first backwards dress story I’ve ever heard.

I appreciate both the laugh and the knowledge that I am not the only person who wears her clothing incorrectly. (I’ve worn shirts inside out and both shirts and shorts backwards. They were exercise shorts with no zippers, but still. Backwards.) I hope tomorrow is a forwards-clothing day. : )

Love this post– I was making up stories when I saw the teaser, but your story was better than any I was concocting! The text conversation is the perfect artifact!
