I spotted our head custodian, Mr. Al, in the cafeteria as I entered for lunch duty. “Welcome back!” I said. “You look tan. Did you go away?”
He went on to tell me about his twelve-day cruise and the six islands he had visited.
“I’m going to need your help. I’m working on writing it all up,” he said. Mr. Al’s scheduled Slice of Life day for our school community challenge is Wednesday. I had wondered if he remembered.
“Anything you need,” I replied, excited that he had been thinking about his piece while vacationing.
The joys of living like a writer.

How wonderful you have a school community challenge, and that he is participating. How powerful is this to show students that we are all writers – fabulous.

We started a month long writing challenge- inviting staff members to pick one day to share a piece on a community blog. It’s fine better than we could have ever imagined! https://wheresthejoy.wordpress.com/2023/03/01/welcome-to-march/

This idea makes me wish I was still teaching, as I would have LOVED for our school community to do this. Darn. I will pass the idea along to my colleagues for next year.

Oh, I love this. I can’t wait for Mr. Al to write. Are you sharing this as a blog for the whole community? Like teachers, parents & students? That must be amazing!
