Ode to Our Home

One year ago, I wrote an Ode to Our Sweet Little House that served us well for thirteen years. We left that sweet little house, a home that we loved but sometimes felt tight, for a home that felt meant to be.

When we first entered our new home, for the first time as homeowners, we were met with a letter from the previous owners…it still lives on our fridge today:

Each day and every opportunity we get, we try to fill it with as much love and joy as we know came before. There are still days where I wake up in this place and have to pinch myself…we live here now.

We are so grateful for this home, that sits on top of a hill where we get to watch the sun rise in the front yard and set in the back. For the space to run and gather…to make new memories.

  1. It seems you are carrying on exactly what the former owners honored – family and entertainment. Congrats! Your PLACE sounds like the perfect conduit. Thanks for including the photo of the letter.

  2. You’ve reminded me of an essay Anna Quindlan wrote years ago about home and homelessness. Having a home and home ownership is a privilege we take for granted too often. We’ve been in our home 24 years. I’m thankful for it every day.

  3. It is quite funny we both chose Ode in our title and we haven’t even seen each other!! This slice captures the appreciation you have for family, living, and of course you beautiful home and neighborhood!
