I love your line, ‘seeking the magic in our own environment’ and will do that as soon as I finish this comment. I really love that you are fostering a love of writing with your daughters. My students’ favorite times to write is when I took them outside, let them choose a spot within the boundaries, and let the ‘free write’…and then we’d come inside and share. Once I began letting them free write 2-3 times a week, I never had to worry about ‘test scores’ again…they just improved.
