“This is the easy part,” she said

“Do I go this way?” I asked Wren as I contemplated which veer to take on our way to a ballet competition in Queens, New York.

Wren barely registered I was talking to her. She was applying eyelashes and ruby red lipstick, in order to be stage ready. “This is the easy part,” she assured me as I started to break a sweat from the nerves that always find me when navigating an unfamiliar place.

“Easy for you to say,” I thought to myself. But for the rest of the ride, I thought about her words.

Car ride makeup application.

In less than two hours time, Wren would be standing on an unfamiliar stage, performing in front of an unfamiliar crowd. She was performing for judges who would critique and judge her groups’ dance.

I’d just be sitting, observing. That was the easy part.

Perspective.

An illegal photo I snapped from my seat in the audience.
A watermarked photo that is ridiculously overpriced, but shows my girl in all her glory.

Where in the world am I writing from?!? (Thank you Peter for this much snazzier title!) Once again, on my phone in a hotel room. I texted myself the title right after Wren and I reached our first destination for the day.

  1. Your phone! Of course! I love the illegal photo and the beautiful watermarked photo and, especially, the perspective. Wasn’t she just a little nubbin? How did Wren get so mature?!
