Today was publishing day for a fifth grade class at our school. I had invited their teacher to give shared writing a go, tasking the class with writing an informational article about a speaker their class had heard.
Today, their post went live on Two Writing Teachers. Karen, the classroom teacher and I, planned a mini celebration while I was in her room midday. Karen had put together a slide show, recapping their work. She included videos and pictures and highlighted the class’ growth along the way.
The slideshow ended with the reveal of their post on the blog. The kids were so excited to see their words projected on “the big screen!” They then launched into questions I hadn’t anticipated. “How many subscribers do we have?” Then someone pointed out that the post already had five likes. I rounded up in my head and shared that “close to 100 people had already read their words so far.”
After school, a quick check to Jetpack gave me one more celebration to share with Karen. I texted this photo to her, along with the message “Tell them their writing is breaking records! 🤣”

what a story…look at all the writing and writing talk…that has emerged from “one little idea”
