Play

On Saturday, our family spent nearly twelve hours watching over 100 dance performances, including seven that included our oldest daughter, Wren. Wren’s dance company hosted a showcase for their dancers to perform the pieces they have been learning and rehearsing since August.

Today, I spent twelve hours at school. A regular school day, followed by an elongated faculty meeting, and then a virtual grad school class.

When my writing partner, Dawn, texted about her idea for her slice, which you can read here, I was bummed I didn’t have an idea.

So as my professor wrapped up class, I quickly took some of the titles of the songs Wren danced to this weekend and wrote a little ditty. A little play at the end of a long day…

Revolting children?
I think not.
Sweet Dreams
As Neverland comes alive
Burnin’ up the stage
Smile
You all shine brighter than the sun

  1. Perfect! Two long days lead to one nice little ditty! Admire all you do (although you might be a little crazy…I like crazy) and your dedication to every thing and everyone!

  2. I love how you took the words and images of your day to create this slice. I think we need to shift our mindset for what writing is. In my opinion, a collage of titles, followed by images equals an A+ slice! Thanks for sharing.

  3. I agree with what Sally said. The blending parts of your day, the photos, the words, the music, the busy-ness of it all came together in a slice. Not just any slice. A slice OF LIFE. You show that when writing is the goal, it all comes together to make it happen, even in the midst of a faculty meeting, or the end, or a daydream, or a phone call from a friend. It all happens in the heart of the writer.

  4. Wow, wow, wow! I’m just blown away to see Wren as a passionate dancer! With incredible stamina! 7 pieces? Over 100 performances over almost 12 hours? That’s a tremendous outlay of energy, focus and engagement for all involved! Using the song titles from Wren’s lineup offers a light touch following two very long days.
