On Monday, my pal Erika wrote about the contrasting weekend weather in her post Yesterday and Today. That was just the inspiration I needed for our school’s morning message that same day:

Later that morning, I met Ms. G’s class walking down the hall towards the cafeteria. I’ve been in their classroom the last few weeks as they’ve begun to explore poetry during writing workshop. “Check out today’s morning message as you walk by,” I whispered to them. “I was thinking you’d be just the people to turn it into a poem. See what you think.”
I watched as they walked by and their teacher snapped a picture.
The next day, my phone alerted me that I had a message…a video from Ms. G’s class reciting a poem they had written. The photo came next…

Writers inspire writers.

I’m so happy to hear that one piece of writing led to another and then another!

The morning message is such a great thing to do for the whole community! Not surprised it inspired some class poetry! It’s like a writing game of telephone!

I love the way that poem grew from SOL seed to whole-school message to poem to us. I also love how Satur -day sounded like “sadder” day or maybe they were thinking of ‘saturated” day and then became a “sun” day. Very nice.

From noticing to writing to publishing to reading to sharing to writing to noticing to a poem. From one person to a community to one person to a community.
I’m pretty sure you are a genius, in case you are wondering. If nothing else, this was genius. Love it.
